I absolutely love working and volunteering with the RNLI. It is a real honour to be able to help people but it can be very hard work (and sometimes a little scary too!). It is brilliant to know that I have made a real difference to peoples lives. The training that I went through with the RNLI requires dedication and a will to help people, but you make brilliant friends and learn some amazing lifesaving skills doing it!

When the pager goes off in the middle of the night and I have to jump into my car and then run to the boat and put on all my RNLI kit before sailing into the sea in a storm it can be a real thrill. And there is nothing better than spotting someone in the sea or finding the boat that was in distress and being able to help them. However, sometimes you don’t find anyone or it was a false alarm and you just end up getting very cold and wet and going home.

All in all, it is something that I am very proud of doing and the RNLI have some amazing boats and equipment that are a pleasure to work on as an engineer!
